Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Monday 25.02.2019

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. The snow is soaked at lower elevations and can lead to small wet avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 24. February 2019

Etter en mild helg med mye regn helt til topps er snøen nå gjennomvåt. Jevnt over kom det 20-40 mm nedbør i regionen siden fredag.

Mountain weather

Sunday 24. February 2019

18 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to gale from the west during the evening. -2 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 25. February 2019

7-10 mm precipitation. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the during the afternoon. -3 °C to 3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
